Age of Conan Reinvigorates the MMORPG Market

The eagerly awaited massively multiplayer online role playing game, Age of Conan, has finally been released by popular game developer Funcom.

500,000 avid gamers signed up for Age of Conan’s test phase, a feat which could not be dreamed of with their previous title Anarchy Online. Funcom expanded its previous team to include various new elements, many of which had a previous fanaticism for the work of Robert E. Howard. In the preparation period Funcom regularly released clips from their development team and the progress being made with Age of Conan.

Existing online PC games are often questioned for being too detached from the gory subjects they are based on. Toning down the violence and bloodshed for more mainstream appeal is not what will happen with Age of Conan.

Age of Conan clashes with all other MMOs. Whilst Anarchy Online was ahead of the field in developing the first post-apocolyptic MMORPG to match the expectations of many gamers, Conan promises to innovate in the realms of gameplay and character development.

Hacking and slashing away in Conan is as violent as Howard’s vision with a revolutionary combat system that lets gamers directly control the bloodshed. This uncovers an entirely new level of skill and attentiveness to gameplay,with each weapon presenting a different set of striking options.

Age of Conan is one of the MMORPG world’s most anticipated realms which is made clear in the press coverage Age of Conan has received. The game has been inundated with pre-launch credit from various credible outlets, a feat that to which the popularity of the Beta can be attributed.
