When people talk about motivation and how to achieve it they usually think along the line of trying to do or say something to create the required actions.

However, to create real long term motivation it has to come from within the person them self, so as a leader how do we achieve the ability to motivate other people. It has long been thought and still is in many companies that having a big meeting with all the top earners telling their story’s, creates a motivated and energised group of Distributors. It may be good enough to sustain a short term burst, but in reality many of the company’s members are so far removed from these top earners that it has the opposite effect and they feel they could never get to that elevated position.

OK! So if that is not the answer what is? Well if you want to motivate someone to action you have to find out their “Buttons” or what is it that they truly want, not just from the business but family life, holidays, education, freedom, a new car, Dress, Suit. This means as a leader getting to know your team members ‘Dreams and Desires’ then if we can break down what they have to do to achieve one of these goals into manageable steps within the organisations compensation plan, they will be in a position to feel motivated from within. Once they have achieved a small success, we can then build on that to create a sustained effort over a longer period of time.

It is not possible to use just one method as we are all different in how and what motivates us, again taking the time to find out the individual reasons why someone joins your company is paramount in being able to find ways to keep them motivated. The other main factor in Network Marketing is the leader, how did they start in the business, what did they do, because the real power of the network is to duplicate. There is only one chance to create a ‘Story’ for yourself within the first 3 months of your company, so if you take massive action buy and use the product the chances are you will attract people who will do the same. This is one of the real ways to develop a network quickly and create momentum, which is vital for the growth of your business.

Leadership is not about telling others what to do, that is a Dictatorship, to lead effectively is to serve your group members and help them to achieve the level of success they are after, for some that maybe enough to pay the mortgage every month while for others it will be to create a full time income and be able to leave their current occupations. As a leader you are required to give them the confidence, abilities and knowledge about all aspects of the business allowing them to be able to cut away and duplicate with their own team, which produces a never ending chain of reaction that will continue even if you don’t. Then you can truly say that you have been successful in Network Marketing.
